In her words:
How did you both meet?
Danny and I have a long history together. When we were both 4 years old, we lived across the street from each other for almost a year. Although we were too young to remember, Danny’s parents recounted stories about how we used to play together and my parents recall the “cute twins” that used to live across the street. The earliest memory I have of Danny was our 6th-grade social studies class. Danny was going through a growth spurt and his pants were too short on him. I explicitly remember telling my mom about the boy in my social studies class with the short pants… who would have known that I would talk to my mom about that boy so many more times in my childhood? In 8th grade, Danny and I both won “most talkative” for our middle school superlatives. In the yearbook picture, Danny and I are about the same height (crazy to even imagine!) and the picture always makes me smile because… who would have known that those two kids would be married today?
Although we knew each other throughout our lives, it was our high school French class that we REALLY got to know each other. We took all 4 years of French together, and, as more people dropped out of French and our class got smaller, the closer we got to each other. Over the years we built a strong friendship, which is still the foundation of our relationship today. All throughout high school, we were great friends… we’d go to the movies together, go out to eat together, and text constantly. However, we didn’t start officially dating until May of our senior year. One of my favorite quotes is, “all good things come to those who wait” and that couldn’t be any truer when it comes to our relationship.
What do you Love about him?
There is an infinite number of things I love about Danny. It might sound cheesy, but it is absolutely true. One of the things I love the most about Danny is that he loves me for who I truly am. Danny acknowledges my strengths, accepts my faults and has always given me his love without any reservations. Danny has always been and continues to be there for me through everything.. seriously… he even helped me through breakups with exes before we dated! He is also the most loyal person I have ever met. When I moved to Massachusetts for graduate school, Danny drove every single weekend 4+ hours one way, just to spend one day of the weekend with me (I worked on Sundays). Danny has the silliest personality and the kindest heart. He is the most thoughtful man I know, always leaving me cute surprises to remind me how much he loves me. He is the best fur dad to our two dogs and cat, and I already know how much of a good dad he will be to our future children. I love how adventurous Danny is and that together we have and will continue traveling the world together. I also love how Danny’s love for learning compliments my own love for learning, and that we spend hours watching documentaries and talking about all the new things we learned together. I love the life we have already built together, and I am so excited to see what the rest of our lives has in store for us.
How did you know he was the One?
I credit this one to my mom. It was senior year and Danny had *finally* kissed me for the first time (yes, finally. It took him over 2 years!). Although our first kiss was magical in of itself, I was a confused teenager and didn’t know which of my two crushes I should end up with. One day, my mom and I were in the car driving to the Portuguese bakery after school and I was complaining to her about my boy confusion. My mom looked at me and said “well, who do you imagine yourself with years from now?”. Without any hesitation, Danny’s face came immediately to mind and I could already imagine a wonderful life with him. From that moment on, everything just reassured me he was the one. Danny would come over every single night to spend time with me, play video games with my little brother, and play superheroes with my baby sister (she was only 2 at the time!). Danny spent hours getting to know me and my family. His dedication to, not only me but to spending time with my family was one of the reasons that made me fall more in love with him.
In His words :
How did you both meet?
We officially met for the first time in high school after we both separately decided to take French as a language. We didn’t get a chance to connect in the first or second year since the class sizes were larger, but our Junior and Senior year was when I had the chance to talk to her and get to know her. We had connected before high school via different means but once I saw her beauty in that French class I was starstruck with admiration, and she never left my mind after that. We did not go out immediately, instead, we slowly built a friendship over the years which is why I believe we are so close now since we didn’t rush into it like many other high school relationships we saw. There was a quote that I had always remembered through the years of knowing Daniela, “The empire of Rome wasn’t built in a day”. With this mantra I had the patience and willingness to always work towards us being together and not rushing into things, this is a reason why it took me over 2 years to finally kiss her (which she teases me about all the time). I wanted to make sure we had a strong foundation in our friendship before getting into dating. I can tell you from experience, you will never find the same love I feel until you decide to marry your best friend. From then on, it was us against the world.
What do you Love about her?
This sounds cliche but I don’t even know where to begin, there are so many things I love about my now wife, Daniela. She loves me for me, she always pushes me to be my absolute best, and she always makes sure that our future is set to be bright and successful. Also its Daniela’s loyalty, compassion, intelligence, strength, sense of humor, ability to never allow anyone to step over her, and her love which she doesn’t just give away that I love about her tremendously. And I will always make it a point to be where she is in life, be it in Massachusetts, New Jersey, or the Moon, wherever she goes, I will be right there with her holding her hand through the best and worst times. I now have a forever travel partner to explore the world with and which I adore with all my heart and cannot see with anyone else. And I’m excited to experience our entire lives together!
How did you know she was the One?
After many years through high school, I had the opportunity and privilege of seeing Daniela grow into her beautiful personality. It was such an honor looking back and being able to see the history of not only your best friend but your eventual wife grow before your eyes. This is the beauty of high school sweethearts that not many people get to witness, seeing someone you adore and admire grow in front of your own eyes. I will always be impressed with her ability to overcome and adapt to new problems which a lot would crumble under the stress especially in high school. In the latter half of high school, there was a pool party hosted by a mutual friend at the time, and I remember vividly holding Daniela in my arms when we were swimming (she’s known not to be a great swimmer) and it was then that I felt this astounding feeling of peace, positivity, and feelings that I never felt with someone before and it stuck with me after then which I wanted to pursue further. it wasn’t much longer till I got down on one knee at a local park in a bamboo forest, to ask her to be my girlfriend. Once we started dating for a while and after getting to know her family, it was then I knew she was the one. Her family starting to accept me as one of their own and started showing me love where I haven’t gotten in the past and their amazing Portuguese culture. I was surrounded in an environment that puts family and love first and that is something that will always resonate with me since I was seeking it for many years. Once we started college together and now got to see that we had very similar wants in life and similar paths in wanting to be successful, it was then that I found my life partner and my absolute true love and soulmate. This is when I asked her parents over dinner for her hand in marriage which they lovingly accepted and was beyond happy for us. The rest is history.
